What is In It For Me?

One of the most often asked questions is "How do I hear God?" Sometimes the answer lies in listening to others. Jesus came to restore relationship. The isolation that so divides and propels sin can be undone by doing what Jesus did. Simply listening.

Ministry Pitfalls

In the world we live in we develop skills. We can use these skills to define who we are or what we believe our purpose is. To depend on someone else to provide us what we need when we need it places us in a place we worked hard to get out of, It necessitates faith because of the risk. Part of it is realizing whose battle it is and who receives the glory from the victory.

Spiritual Leprosy

Gal 6:2 Says that when you carry the burdens of others you fulfill the law of Christ. This often means asking Jesus to see things as He sees them. Seeing the works of the devil that Jesus came to destroy has a cost because He feels the pain of all parts of the body. Undoing them necessitates a wisdom only He can provide. What you carry will be what you lay before Him.It is not about works. It is about walking with him. You cannot take a journey with someone without seeing what they see, stopping when they stop and going where they go.

I Don't Know

In realizing who God is, you realize who you are. A pastor once said the distance between our holiness and that of Jesus is the same as the distance between the earth and the nearest star. That does not change God's love for us. It changes our approach to God.The same pastor said, "When you realize how large that distance is, you realize how small the distance is to the man in front of you." Prayer that is about seeking God's face and His will frees you from the responsibility for the results. If my distance from the man next to me is so small, why should I measure myself against him?

To Know and Be Known

A woman minister went to the doctor. She had a very traumatic year that would destroy most people. The doctor asked her, "How are you?" The woman replied. "Fine." The doctor looked her in the eyes and said, "How are you really!" Many people develop a false self for protection. This self represents who we want people to think we are.The rational is "If they knew what I was like, they would not like me." Being authentic with Jesus and with each other brings peace. Maintaining a false self often delays healing that God wants to do.

How to Fight Spiritual Battles

We can make ourselves vulnerable by trying to fight battles we were never meant to fight. When we step into the arena of spiritual warfare, we are stepping into an arena where everyone there has more experience than us.The only way lasting fruit and victory is secured is by realizing there is only one hero and letting Him lead us. Fighting out of our emotions and perceived authority can actually sideline us as we repair damage that should never have occurred. God desires obedience above sacrifice. We don't do great things for God. We do things for a great God

Jesus Takes What We Give Him

The things that are never brought into the light are not healed. The pain of trying over and over to overcome a situation without success is very common. Forgiveness and repentance are often the keys to freedom. Overcoming the fear that no one would like you if they knew the real you is the primary weapon the enemy uses to keep people in this bondage.

When It is Real

Our society measures change quantitatively. But when happens in the spiritual is measured by what happens eternally. When you are intent on what doing what God has created you for, the numbers don't matter. What matters is whether a true change has occurred. Even Jesus realized that unless people were willing to change that just agreeing the change was needed was not enough.

Sometimes There is No Shortcut

All our education and training is geared to having an answer for every situation. The answer gives us a sense of control and security. But looking at current events, there don't seem to be many concrete answers. Eventually, it always comes down to prayer.

Chapter One Continued

There is a reality that is totally unscripted that is recognizable as genuine. When this happens the Gospel is engaging people rather than being presented. People who have heard the Gospel before are waiting for the closing statement. People who are engaged are invested in the conversation and realize that something spiritual is actually taking place.

Healing is More Than A Prayer Event

Jesus said that the world would know we belong to Him because we love each other. To love someone you have to be present and know their heart. To be present takes time. As Jesus was present and took time with us we have to take time and be present with others.

Going to the Worst Places for the Best Reasons

Sometimes it is time to pray and other times it is time to go. There are things that need to be faced. David in the Bible did not try to pray Goliath away. Paul when the slave girl kept interrupting what God was doing did not ask God to stop her. There is a time to pray and a time to pick up a stone. There are time God does things for you, and there are times He does things through you/

There are no vessels of lower value.

What a vessel contains is more important than how it looks. With both Jesus and the apostle Paul, the Bible describes their appearance as ordinary. If you consider yourself a vessel of value, what you contain may be of yourself. God is glorified when what happens through someone could not possibly happen of their own efforts. A title, or personal knowledge may impress ourselves or others or cause us to perform to back up our reputation. Either way a sovereign God by His very nature will empower what He initiates. Finding God's will is more effective than asking Him to bless our plans.

Whose kingdom are you building?

In the process of building " a ministry" or doing what you believe God is doing through a program, you can can miss what God is actually doing. You can try to become what you believe is the job description is and miss what God is doing. Any time "your ministry" becomes more important than your obedience to God there is a crossroads. What God initiates He empowers.

He is with us.

The man in the book who received the open vision of the Throne of God in his hospital room in Harlingen, Texas in 2014 went home to be with God this past week. Before prayer he said he was afraid. This past year he prayed for the sick and is now experiencing for eternity what he experienced for a few minutes. The goal of this book is to equip people to go and pray for others. I would not have missed this moment of being part of what God was doing for anything else.

Death Has Lost It's Sting

Carrying fear distracts you from your destiny. It focuses your energy and attention on deriving all you can from this life. Not carrying the fear allows you to live this live with more clarity.

All the Pieces Fit Together

Finding Your Destiny

There is a day when it will be all said and done for each of us. But when that day comes after life is through, will we have said and done all that God created us for? Baby sparrows are cute but they were never created to stay babies.

The Lady in the Asylum

Authority from God is not something that can be earned or worked up. It is not a matter of enthusiasm or your own gifting. It is something God gives to those He can trust with it.

Sometimes there is no plan and God shows up anyway.

God Proves His Own Points

Sometimes God shows up and proves a point in spite of unbelief.

Katrina

In the midst of a storm what do you do?

The Unexpected

Usually there is no plan. It is just following the leading of the Holy Spirit.

No Shades of Gray

There will be times in finding your destiny in Christ where you realize the absolutes. In accepting the absolute goodness of God you may see the separation of soul and spirit. In this incident the vulnerability of a pastor acting out of their soul happened. Sometimes who you think you are and what you think you know have to take a back seat to what God has sent you to do.

Going Beyond Faith to Trust

Giving a word in front of 4000 people took more than faith. You obey someone who has authority over you. You trust someone who loves you and who you love.

Chapter 3 The Man in the Woods

Walking into a circumstance in which you are without resources unless God shows up is a test of your faith. When the well being of others is at stake it becomes a test of your love for those God sends you to.

It is Not Over

The most powerful tool the enemy has is a lie. Many times we are so preoccupied with it we fail to see the truth. While teaching at the prison showing the men the lies they believed and how they were undone by them helped some of them realize it was not over and who their true enemy was.
