While visiting a Christian singles group in 1985, God taught me this lesson. A young man named John came up to me with a request. He said, “I know God uses you in healing. I have a friend who is very sick. Would you pray that God uses me to pray for her?”
How could I say no? I prayed for John. All of a sudden it was like a bolt of lightning hit him. He fell to the floor and shook for 45 minutes.
The leader of the Christian singles group, Robert, went ballistic. He started ranting at me, “What did you do”?
“He wanted prayer so he could pray for a sick friend. I just prayed for him,” I told him.
“First of all, if God is going to do anything in this group, He will tell me first. Secondly, John can’t pray for anyone. He just got saved a few weeks ago. All he knows is Jesus.” Robert replied.
I did not argue with him. The power which came upon this John was not mine. I believe God honored the heart John had. John. In my opinion was the best one in the room to pray for you at that moment. John wept and thanked me when he got up. In spite of John just knowing Jesus I believe God used him greatly. Just as when Samuel anointed King David, this was a heart matter. We don’t get to choose who God uses. I did not tell this group leader I had prayed God would use this young man 10 times as much as he used me.
