My 15-year (and counting) journey through peri- and menopause has been just that—a journey. The underlying lesson throughout has been one of acceptance: acceptance of mood swings that make my former PMS mood swings seem amateur; acceptance of night sweats; acceptance of waking up at 3:00 a.m. wired; acceptance of unexpected, ill-timed tears; acceptance of frequently losing my train of thought mid-sentence; and acceptance of how my body changes in less-than-exciting ways, even though I am still choosing the same nutritious food choices and self-loving amounts. For some of these conditions, there are solutions. For some of them, there are not. As for the case of food choices and amounts, the road to acceptance has been a long one.
