Long Ago Midsummer—The Thunder Moon
“We will stop here for the night and if we rise
early in the morning, we should be in the
kingdom of Bohemia by tomorrow evening,”
said the aegis.
“Yes of course,” I replied.
Instantly, he dismounted from his horse and
was at my side to help me down from the large
mare I was riding. I studied Aegis of Bohemia
as he lifted me off the horse and gently set me
onto the ground. He seemed young for an aegis.
I judged him to be just a few years older than
myself; however, at the age of nearly 17, I
guess I wasn’t so young anymore either.

I had never seen anyone that looked like
Aegis of Bohemia before. He wore his dark,
curly hair long. It hung past his shoulders,
accentuating his most unusual light-green eyes.
I had to admit that I found him quite handsome,
but his clothing made his appearance very
curious. Over a puffy, loose-fitting red tunic, he wore a leather vest embroidered with the
heraldic moon of Bohemia. The tunic was
tucked into loose, black pants which were
tucked into tall, black boots. A ruby sword
amulet hung from his neck, signifying that he
was the true Aegis of Bohemia, the top knight
of the kingdom. I noticed another piece of
jewelry, a small golden hoop that pierced his
right ear. Most intriguing of all was a drawing
of a moon etched into the skin of his inner
wrist. I felt my cheeks burn when he caught me
staring at the unusual marking. I quickly turned
away, but not before I saw him grin at me.
