Eckhart Tolle, a writer and spiritual teacher, describes his experience of enlightenment at the age of twenty-nine in The Power of Now after suffering long periods of depression, dissolving his old identity, and radically changing his life.
Tolle describes two levels of pain, present and past. He says, There are two levels to your pain: the pain that you create now, and the pain from the past that still lives on in your mind and body. He explains certain emotions as also aspects of pain; Resentment, hatred, self-pity, guilt, anger, depression, jealousy, and so on, even the slightest irritation, are all forms of pain.
As youwill also see, emotional causes lie behind much physical pain. Heal the emotions and the pain dissolves.

Gary says, To me, fibromyalgia and most other physical ailments are merely bodily manifestations or symptoms of unresolved fear, trauma, rejection, anger, guilt and other emotional causes. Take care of the emotional causes and the physical symptoms tend to fade.

HOW I SURVIVED CHRONIC ILLNESS – ONE WOMAN’S STORY of RESILIENCE
Pat built her health, after years of debilitation from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, CFS, and Fibromyalgia pain, with a relentless pursuit of insights from leading specialists and her own personal tenacity.
Pat says, I will never forget the month and year I came down with an illness of unknown origin, January 1990 in Los Angeles, California. My life would never be the same, explained Pat.
What caused my sickness, perhaps, an environmental toxin? My car had an exhaust problem so I naively drove with the windows open to blow the exhaust back out again. One night coming home from my night job, unbeknown to me, I drove through an aerial pesticide spraying for fruit with my car windows open. This spraying continued for a total of 12 times over the next five months because of a pandemic Mediterranean fruit fly – Med Fly infestation in fruit crops.
Subsequent to this chemical assault, my immune system became dysregulated. I developed debilitating fatigue, flu-like symptoms, swollen lymph nodes, fever, aches and pains, bladder and stomach problems, difficulty concentrating, and major depression, to name a few.
Dysregulation means the nervous system retains some energy without complete discharge as would be normal. Over time, the person handles stress less well.
