On the way back, he stopped at a street vendor and purchased a single lavender calla lily.
“Only one?” the vendor asked.
“It’s all I have money for,” David explained.
“Tell me, is she special?”
“She’s the woman I’m going to marry.”
“Then you cannot just give her one lily. Take three, one for your heart, one for your soul, and one for your mind.”
“But I can’t...”
“You can pay me next week.”
As the man wrapped the calla lilies with baby’s breath in paper, David thanked him.
