She bent down and held her lips lightly against his. She took his breath in as he exhaled, she could taste his breath, still colored by the food and spirits they consumed late into the evening with friends and guests. She rose from his lips and whispered gently, “I love you,” and kissed his cheek then temple and brow.
She saw a slight smile break on his lips and his eyes opened slowly.
“I love you too baby,” he said softly.
