How would you behave if you knew Karma was watching?
When a homeless man rescues a young boy from a savage beating he is rewarded with a life changing discovery. Unfortunately it doesn't necessarily change for the better. Now he is up against forces that are conspiring to make him be something he's not, a decent human being.
Craig Anderson can't stand writing about himself in the third person. I’ve been calling myself a writer for years, but most of my time spent writing is on a really long novel that no-one except me has read. I’m still not happy with it, and wonder if I ever will be. I’m a Brit that lives in Canada, and I moved here via Australia, so no matter where I go people hear my bizarre accent and ask me where I am from. I have a beautiful wife, two cats called Sydney & Mel, and a Brittany Spaniel called Jasper. I’m currently a middle manager, which means my life often scarily resembles a Dilbert comic. I’m a bit of a nerd and play a lot of video games, normally during the hours I am supposed to be writing/cleaning/looking after Jasper. I am also a total coffee snob, which is all Melbourne’s fault
I wanted to start the book with some insight into the main character and his disposition towards human interaction. He is jaded, bitter, angry and frustrated - at the very bottom of the food chain. This feeling isn't new to him, he's been here long enough for this to become his reality. This is a key foundation for the story that follows and his journey towards redemption.
I also wanted to establish early that he has had to stoop to things he wouldn't have previously dreamed of, that he has reached lows he never could have imagined. This becomes and important plot device as the book progresses and his choices are challenged by an unseen entity.

Getting Lucky
I hate people. I don’t mean certain people in particular, I mean people in general. Five years living on the streets will do that to you. When you’ve begged away your dignity and grown accustomed to the looks of pity, you start detesting the very people that are trying to help you. I hate the ones that give me money and I hate the ones that don’t. It’s no longer relevant because I decided long ago that I would never go back to begging. I’ve discovered much more effective means of parting people with their money.
