Leroy turned to face Juan. "I'm sorry about your uncle, Juan, but he wouldn't take no for an answer in the prison break. He always spoke highly about you and your brother, Carlos, especially after he had four or five drinks. But before that he was pissed that you folk had stranded him there with me. I guess it all evens out.
“By the way, thanks for straightening out the false accusations about me and Jesus. I thought I could take care of myself. Turns out your way was cleaner."
Juan nodded absentmindedly. "Nothing like demonstrating to the authorities that they bolloxed up the incriminating evidence and the two people they had in jail weren't in the same hemisphere at the time."
Leroy smirked. "They weren't much for saying sorry for the mistake, but, boy, they didn't waste any time pushing us out the door, hoping nobody would advertise their screw up on the Internet Wall of Shame. Har har!"
Juan returned Leroy's gaze. "A deal is a deal. Here is the account information, along with the two-factor authentication codes. You are in control of your nest egg.
“I was hoping you might want to stay on as a freelance contractor. It would only be for the greater good of our cause against the new government tyranny."
Leroy rocked his head to one side and in his practiced Alabama drawl stated, "You mean I still gets to work against the establishment, but fo’ a worthy cause? Mr. Juan, I kind of like the sound of that! Doin’ bad to do good. Why don't you tell me whatcha y’all got in mind?"
Juan smiled. "One of our operative agents, tasked with monitoring the digital landscape, has uncovered some...motivated entrepreneurs that are about to have their business plan and heads handed to them on a platter. We aren't anxious to have them shut down, but they are simply not good enough to run rogue like they are now.
“Carlos and I thought if you, and someone we all know but don't trust, were to help guide them, they might be spared some...unpleasantries. It helps that you already know the lady who you would work with, if you agree."
Leroy grinned and allowed, "I can't help but think this here offer is gonna be great fun!"
Juan pitched Leroy a next generation Q-bit cell phone and said, "I thought you might. Here is your new phone."
