Psalms in the Key of My Life

Religion & Spirituality

I LOVE the Psalms! They are reminders of God's love that have comforted and inspired me throughout my life. My attempts to read through the entire book of Psalms were sometimes frustrated by my inability to relate to some of them. A few years ago, I felt led to find a way to personalize all 150 Psalms. As I began to share my reflections with others, I was encouraged to publish them, in the hopes that others too would be inspired. This book, "Psalms in the Key of my Life" covers Psalms 1-50. I pray that my writing will bless, comfort or inspire you.

Impatience-Psalm 42 Reflection

This is the story of my life. I am impatient. God is working with me on that one, for sure. This is for all those who live with chronic pain. A reminder that God is still there, nearer than we sometimes realize. Wait on the Lord. Be encouraged.

Our President and First Lady

This Psalm is a coronation Psalm. The closest thing on my life to that would be the inauguration of a president. I just happened to be working on this particular Psalm In January 2013, a perfect fit. I send a copy of this book and the second one (emphasis on Psalm 72: A Prayer for our President) to the Obamas with a letter explaining why I send them, and encouraging them to read this poem and the one for Psalm 72. About a month letter, I received a wonderful thank you note on official White House stationary, signed by both President Obama and Michelle Obama. That pretty much made my life.

Psalm 49 Reflection

No matter how hard we work or how rich we get, we are all destined for the grave. This psalm reminds you to make the most of the time you have.

Loved and Nurtured

Reflection on Psalm 16. With God loving and nurturing us, what more do we need?

The Beauty of God's Law

Unfailing Love

Religion & Spirituality

I LOVE the biblical Psalms! The poetry, music, and reminders of God's love, have comforted and been an inspiration for me through this journey called life. This book is the second book in the "Psalms in the Key of my Life" series; a collection of reflections on the biblical Psalms. This project began as a journal. As I read through the book of Psalms, I found myself unable to relate to some of them. My goal was to personalize all 150 psalms. As I began to share my reflections with others, I was encouraged to publish them, in the hopes that others too would find them inspirational. The first book, "Psalms in the Key of my Life", includes reflections for Psalms 1-50. This, the second volume, includes reflections for Psalms 51-100. Open your Bibles and follow me through the Psalms. Pull out a pen and paper and respond in your own way. You may be surprised at where you are led. Not sure if this is the book for you? Download a sample or read the preview of the paperback. As a former teacher of low income inner-city students, my perspective my differ from yours, but the message that God is there for each person to help them through whatever difficulties they may face is universal.

Praying for our President

I sent a copy of this book and the first one to the President and the first lady. I actually received an acknowledgement that seemed to indicate they read my letter. Can't say whether or not they read the books, but I was more than impressed that they responded at all. Still excited two weeks later!!!!

A Soldier's Psalm

Psalm 91 reminds us of God's protection. It was the favorite psalm of my father, a WWII veteran. I read it to him every day when he was in hospice care at the nursing home.

Create in me a Clean Heart

This is the reflection I wrote for Psalm 51. This psalm reminds us of God's unconditional love even when we have made horrible mistakes, God is still there, loving us, ready to forgive.

Praise the Lord!!

Psalm 150 reminds us of the importance of praise to your relationship with God. It's a call to all people. It encourages the use of various instruments, and of course, your voice. God doesn't care how you do it, he just wants you to celebrate!

Count your Blessings

Reflection for Psalm 128, reminding us to count our blessings.

Psalm 131 Refection

This reflection is in haiku form and simply says that like a child, I trust in and hope in the love of God.

Psalm 119 Reflection

Psalm 119 is the longest chapter in the Bible. It is an acrostic poem, containing one stanza for each of the twenty-two letters in the Hebrew alphabet. Each stanza contains eight verses. Each verse in that stanza begins with the same letter. Each line also contains a synonym for the word “law”. The King James Version uses: law, statutes, judgments, precepts, testimonies, word, commandments, and way. So basically, for the first letter in the alphabet, each of the eight verses in that stanza would begin with that letter and contain one of those eight words. I challenged myself to stick to the same pattern, but using the English alphabet, which made it even longer. I also challenged myself when possible, to use more than one word with the letter featured in that stanza.

Praises!

This is a haiku poem based on Psalm 117, reminding us of the importance of praise.

Celebrating God's Glory

Psalm 104 Reflection celebrating the glory of God's creation.
