I went to bed that evening with the full realization that there would never ever be
enough food to fill the emptiness I felt, regardless of the support and love of my dear
family members and precious daughters.
Step 1-faith
I prayed to God that night to give me strength and courage as I embarked on this new
journey. I had been blessed throughout my lifetime with God’s miracles and this time I
was desperate.
Step 2- wisdom and self-awareness
It was not going to be history repeating itself. I would give it my all. Failure to me
was not acceptable. I was ready.
Upon awakening the next morning, Saturday, I ate a sensible breakfast. Believe me,
after all my Weight Watchers classes and recipes, I knew sensible up the kazoo. I got all
my utensils ready: my teaspoons, measuring cup and a food scale. I set a kitchen timer
for every 30-60 minutes just to make it through that first day. Just make it for 1440
minutes. My relationship with timing goes way back to my childhood years of piano
lessons as I listened to the metronome tick the proper tempo of the music. At the time, it
had been an annoying sound to me, as my fingers tried to find the right keys. Now, I
