don’t receive the promotion they expected.
Addictions of any kind are harmful.
Addictions are created by us; we fool ourselves into thinking we’re in control of them.
We’re not.
Addictions require a change in our mental chatter. We don’t need french fries or ice
cream or alcohol or illegal drugs or cigarettes or just one more hour playing Angry Birds
on our smart phone to get through the day or the pain we’re trying to forget. We need to learn why we think we need them and exactly what we think will happen if we don’t
imbibe.
Addictions require our admission that we have one and that the consequences are
seriously affecting our work and social lives, our relationships, and most of all our health.
Addictions require action of another kind that brings satisfaction and occupies our
mind; for instance, a sport, a morning walk with a neighbor, bird watching, a hobby
(knitting afghans for the elderly; scrapbooking; sorting family photographs), a sport (e.g.,
golf, tennis, racquetball, swimming, darts
