"For a brief period in history the Knights Templar were superstars. Like with so many celebrities, their fame brought them enormous wealth and influence. But power can foster fear and jealousy, and public opinion can easily be swayed with the proper manipulation. After many of its members had been tortured and forced to confess to what even in medieval times seemed to be ludicrous lies, the order was officially disbanded in 1312. However, legends quickly began to circulate about what had happened to the Knights' tremendous wealth. In his engaging and highly entertaining thriller, the author offers up an intriguing scenario about the possible destiny of their treasure.
The book begins with Benjamin Franklin as an old man ensuring that a secret trunk containing a portion of the gems, coins, and artifacts along with a leather-bound ledger ends up in the hands of fellow Freemason, Thomas Fennimore. The story then briefly follows that specific trunk, one of eight, through time until it disappears during the Civil War in a Washington warehouse. But clues about the Templars' riches coming to America have leaked out, putting into motion a race to find the chests by private individuals, the FBI, and a powerful, secret society with an agenda they are willing to kill for.
Eckert's book sees its protagonists travelling the globe and facing various dangers along the way in their quest for answers. And, like with so many books in the genre, the ending may come as a surprise to many readers. The author has done a good job of blending action, suspense, and historical speculation in a thought-provoking package. Fast-paced and enjoyable, Eckert's novel is a fresh look at an old legend."

K.R. Eckert is the author of the History Hunters series of Thrillers and more recently the Q.A. Caine Mysteries. His most recent novel, A Tale of Two Midnights was published in 2022. His next in the History Hunters series will be published in late 2023.

Prior to writing full time K. R. owned a successful second hand book business in Reading, Pennsylvania.

He is an avid student of history and politics and a rabid fan of classic crime fiction and Philadelphia Phillies Baseball. He resides with lots of books in South Central Pennsylvania, near enough to Gettysburg to explain its recurring appearances in his fiction.

The Templar Succession, by author K.R. Eckert, covers over two centuries of historical events, starting with the American Revolution and ending in this contemporary period.

The story starts with a professor and a FBI agent who first work together and then vanish. The mystery is then explored by a man who hires a pair of historians to unearth what happened years ago. And along the way, the historians also unearth plenty of secrets – potentially dangerous if not deadly secrets. But at risk of revealing too much about this book, I will say no more about the plot.

The storyline moves quickly, but in a good way. As a reader, I found myself wanting to turn the next page to discover what surprise was in store next. The characters are also well rounded and therefore compelling.

The format of the book that I read was also easy to follow with spacing between lines and paragraphs being consistent. Eckert’s note at the end of the book added a personal touch; and I personally enjoyed hearing from the author. These points mentioned above are some of this book’s strengths.

The plot, especially towards the beginning of this book, however, jumped a lot. And that made it difficult for me to follow along at points. At times, the author included information – like the location, day, and time and so on – that I would flip back to and help orient myself in the story.

With well over 100 chapters, it also seemed that the story was also broken up into small segments that may have been combined together at places, resulting in less chapters. Overall, I rate this book 4 out of 5 stars.

Historical Context:
Freemasons and the knights' templars have always been fascinating topics for fiction novels. Usually the contention is where all that treasure was finally hidden, but THE TEMPLAR SUCCESSION brings into the picture a very tight plotline laced with intrigues. A plan hatched in the minds of a certain group of men is poised to take the world by storm if not uncovered and routed, and what better duo is there to do this than our heroes?

Book Cover and Interior Formatting:
The cover image is good, but the red used for the title fonts as well as the font itself don't just add up. I'm of the opinion that a brighter color would have better enhanced the fonts, which should have been bolder, thicker or more solid. The interior design is okay. No problems there.

Writing Style:
It's never easy to bring a book to life right from the planning stage to the actual writing and completion of the book. At this I must commend Author Eckert for doggedly pursuing his ambition to completion, even though some typos make the work a bit difficult to read. Also this reviewer feels that the chapters should be condensed two or three at once into one full chapter. I think this will enhance the reading pleasure of the book, but a great story here. I also liked the way Author Eckert builds suspense in the story. It's like watching a movie and I must contend him for this.

Highly recommended for your reading pleasure.

Two secret societies share a big secret and an intertwining history. Can historians and estranged lovers Paul Davenport and Sara Walsh succeed in solving a mystery where others have not only failed, but had their reputations and livelihoods ruined? Can they help Alan Kramer, Jr., clear his father’s name before meeting the same tragic end? Follow a journey that starts with Benjamin Franklin as they crisscross the globe seeking answers they have no business finding.

Both the Templars and the Masons have long been objects of scrutiny and legend, and they continue to fascinate. I loved the weaving of history throughout this novel, but found the writing a bit clunky. The dialogue was solid, but I felt the narration could probably use more editing, particularly as there were some obvious typos and grammar. Still, the story itself is interesting, and the author makes no secret of weaving together real history and fiction, which is nice. Following the National Treasure and Da Vinci Code footsteps, The Templar Succession takes treasure hunting to historical proportions.

The only disappointment I found with this book is that it ended. The story starts with Benjamin Franklin and goes to the present. This historical fiction is an exciting adventure to try and solve the mystery of the Templar's treasure. Alan Kramer believed in the lost treasure and at 70 years of age Alan Kramer JR continues the search. He wants to solve his fathers disappearance and restore his name. The author does a wonderful job of weaving the lives of those involved through the decades. You will keep turning the pages until every part of the mystery is solved. Included at the end is a section to explain what are some historical facts. This book is interesting, keeps you reading and is never dull.

This book was a wonderful read. From the beginning starting with Ben Franklin's death you go on an adventure. The characters are believable and fun to read. There is some hummer thrown in and a lot of mystery and suspense that's done I believe just right

Second half of this book was in my opinion more readable than the first part.In the first half I really struggled to keep track of the characters.In addition to that they were all bumped off very quickly so that I found I would have to keep back tracking to keep up with the present time. All in all,a good tale but too many characters.
