Our author picture is a shot of us with the real Sparkle and the real Abbey. Don't you love the stare down? Our real names are Mary Lee Woods and Anita Carter. We write the Pampered Pets mystery series together. We're also friends and neighbors so you'll often find us writing at ML's dining room table or at our local Starbucks.

We chose to use Sparkle Abbey as our pen name on this series because we liked the idea of combining the names of our two rescue pets - Sparkle (ML's cat) and Abbey (Anita's dog).

We live in the Midwest, but if we could write anywhere, you would find us on the beach with our laptops and depending on the time of day either an iced tea or a margarita.

We have had so much fun writing this series and we hope you enjoy Caro and Mel's adventures!

Loved this one! I have not read all the books in this series so you can read them as a stand alone and not feel you missed too much. One thing that links all of the books together is the ongoing fight over Grandma Tillie's brooch. It has a more minor roll in this than in the first book I read. I chose this book as we have dachshunds and just love the breed. I feel the owners seem pretty much over the top but I know some people who really are so they didn't seem too unrealistic to me. This is a nice lighthearted mystery revolving around the Dachshund Dash races and the competition between the competitors. I enjoyed it very much and read it quickly as I couldn't stand to put it down. There are multiple story lines- who murdered a contestant, is there a gambling ring involved, what is Betty hiding, what are the secrets of the contestants? All come to conclusions at the end so you are not left hanging. The only unanswered question is where the brooch is but I really didn't care. All pet lovers and especially dachshund owners will enjoy this book.

Another great Pampered Pet mystery. Betty has really gotten herself into trouble this time. She has to be one of my favorite characters. The mystery had me guessing until the end.

POSSIBLE SPOILERS: I had to deduct one star for the continuing story of the brooch. It was funny the first few books but now it is starting to get old and it is making both girls behave childishly. Breaking into each other's apartments to steal the brooch is one thing. But when Mel went behind her FBI-boyfriend's back to get the brooch from evidence - that's pushing it a bit. And now Mel is mad because Grey didn't tell her he is undercover on a case? I don't know anyone in the FBI, but I would imagine that they are probably fairly strict about who gets let in on undercover cases. When Mel confronted Hagan in the bar, not only was she jeopardizing Grey's case (which could jeopardize his job), but she was also putting his safety at risk. Hagan was on her list as possible murder suspects and if she blew Grey's cover he could be the next murder victim.

While I normally enjoy the antics of Mel and Caro, this time around Mel was immature and irresponsible. I hope she and Grey can find their way back together, but I think Mel is going to have to do some serious apologizing to make it up to him.

Reading this series always gives me such pleasure. The love for animals and a good mystery combinee with great friendships makes for a delightful cozy. Betty gets on my nerves but I still can't resist her.

When Betty suggests that Melinda sponsor shirts for the local Dachshund Dash and set up a booth, it sounds like perfect advertisement for her pet boutique and a lot of fun. Of course things never turn out as they should. Melinda spends more time trying to keep Betty out of trouble, and trying to discover who is murdering people at the not so fun races than she does in her booth. That would be bad enough but Grey shows up and their relationship appears to be in jeopardy, that stupid broach.

I can't wait to see Caro's book and wonder if we will find out more about that contentious and ugly piece of jewelry.

As the title suggests this book is about doxies. The short little weiner dogs are being raced, much to the s disagreement with a doxie protection group. Its believed one of the dogs is being given performance enhancing drugs. The murder of the owner could be by the protesters or his wife. To find out who killed him and why, check out the book to see for yourself.

Cute, fun, with humor galore! A who-dunnit involving dachshunds, my favorite pups! I'd like to say I wouldn't be like those comical and outlandish pet owners, but I would do most anything for my doxies which made this story all the more enjoyable. A cozy to have fun with, a mystery to solve. You'll chuckle without a doubt and want to take some of the characters home with you just to brighten your day.

If you haven't started reading this series, you are really missing out. It's got dogs (which automatically puts it up several steps), romance, mystery, and humor. It's also got an ongoing family feud over an ugly brooch--those of us from the South will understand this without explanation. Each book is from the point of view of one of two feuding cousins, Mel and Caro. Mel owns a pet accessories shop, and Caro is a pet therapist. This installment is about Mel, and centers on weenie dog races, and how out of control owners can be (the humans who think they own the doxies, that is). My personal favorite character is Betty, Mel's assistant, who uses lipstick to do her eyebrows. It's all a great quirky combination that will hit every emotional button.

Having read, and enjoyed, the previous books in the series, I have to say this is my favorite. The murder mystery itself is well done, and the antics of Mel's assistant, Betty, are priceless. Put her in the presence of 3 good-looking men, and the results are bound to be hilarious! Except for the dead bodies they're always finding, these are people you'd like to be friends with.
