Crowns and Kingdoms: Book 1 Tarshish Kindle Edition

4.8 out of 5 stars 17 ratings

The first book in the Crowns and Kingdoms series, Norris Bloom takes you back in time to the medieval days of Tarshish. The king of Tarshish summons a secret meeting of all the noble kings from kingdoms near and far, putting forth the idea of a secret pact. In order to preserve their kingdoms, each king reluctantly agrees to fake the death of their next born child. Secretly placed in a cottage, the children are taught the virtues needed to be honorable and effective rulers. As the children grow older, Judoc and his Night Invaders continue their assault on the kingdoms. When Judoc claims the throne of Magog and turns his sights on Tarshish, young Zora is forced into battle. With the help of her best friend, Sundiata, Zora uses her head and her heart to defeat Judoc and save the kingdom of Tarshish.

Great fantasy series for middle grade readers

Great fantasy series for middle grade readers
All the kingdoms of the land have entered into a secret pact. Each king will secretly send his next born child to a foster home to ensure the future of their kingdoms. Zora is raised in a quaint cottage with foster parents Millie and William alongside many other children. The children in this home have no idea that they are royalty. After an outbreak of the plague, Millie and William die, leaving the children to fend for themselves. When evil Judoc and his Night Invaders begin attacking kingdoms and their families, will the children figure out who they are and reclaim their rightful place on the throne? Grades 3-6. If you are looking for a fun and easy read, this may be the fantasy series for you. Tarshish is the first books in the series. I enjoyed the quick pace and high adventure of the story. The idea that a foster child might secretly be the heir to a throne is likely to appeal to many children. The content is age-appropriate, making it a great book for younger readers with solid reading abilities. The author, Norris Bloom, is self-published and therefore did not have a large publishing house to edit and design the book for her. Do not judge this book by its cover; it is a great read. Norris Bloom came to our school to kick-off our Young Author’s Program. She did a wonderful job of talking about the writing process and patiently answering each student’s question. We have had high participation in Young Author’s, this year, and I credit Ms. Bloom for encouraging the kids to write. If you are looking for an author to come and visit your school, consider contacting Norris on her website.

First let me say, I decided to read the Crowns and Kingdoms series because they were written by an author who onced lived near me and I was curious. What fun these books are to read! I just finished Book 1 of the series and moved quickly on to Book 2. The stories read so well-Vibrant descriptive, full of characters the reader will care about. The Medieval period is so well represented, it is easy to imagine the scenes set for us right down to the smell of the food at the banquet and the feel of the shoes on their feet. Exciting enough to interest parents but not too scary for a kid. I really liked these books, I'm looking forward to Book 3 and I hope there's a book 4 coming soon!

Enjoyed reading this book greatly. Normally i enjoy historical fiction or non fiction. This book was an easy whimsical read that had lots of elements of historical fiction that made it a page turner for me. Even though 50 year old man may not be the target audience for this book, i still enjoyed reading it over a weekend. If it is a rainy weekend and you need to stay in or you are sitting by a pool in the summertime, this is an enjoyable ready. I found myself rooting for the main characters and getting emotionally invested in them. A great book for all ages. I think children/grandchildren can enjoy this book along with parents/grandparents. I highly recommend that you download it and share it among your family members. All are sure to enjoy it.

Norris Bloom has written more than just a beautifully told story. "Crowns and Kingdoms--Book one:
Tarshish" is an easy read filled with thrilling and heartfelt adventures. Though the story is of centuries long ago, the author has wisely placed examples of good behavioral lessons for her young and her old readers. I look forward to reading the rest of the series, resuming with her second book: "Crowns and Kingdoms Magog."
