Got sucked into Kyra's World!

This is a mystery paranormal love story, centering on a woman’s life, dealing with being strong, independent, and yet equally dependent and needful. She tries to find balance in her world, by over-controlling her emotions and keeping others around her at a safe distance. As in reality, we watch her learn that this method is not very effective for the long term.

What makes Kyra unique is her talent, abilities and particular career. She is an exceptional character who I was drawn into. As a reader, I felt her struggles. I struggled with her; I felt her joy, her love, her sadness, remorse and determination.

There are many supporting characters that I either loved, loathed, or grew on me. A few of them we get to know a little more intimately than others, as they interacted with Kyra.

The book was quite a page turner; I devoured it quickly and had a hard time putting it down. The plot has twists and turns, with a most fitting and surprising ending.

I must disclaim that I was also so privileged to read the book prior to being published. I give my most astounding kudos and applaud the author for adding a more than worthy read to my collection and can’t wait for more!

This urban fantasy might just surprise you. The lore is comprised of elements both fresh and classic. The detail to the narrative is impressively descriptive. I especially like the way the author portrayed Kyra, the main character, as she learned and expanded on each of her skills, which added a level of realism to the story. Also, Kyra had so many layers to her personality and powers. You don't often see that much attention to detail in a single character. Her strengths, flaws, and quirks all worked together to form someone that I really felt like I knew well and understood by the end.

The biggest complaint I had about this story is that all the men are attracted to the main character. And, for her part, she's attracted to all of them. I felt that one of the guys in particular was often too accepting of the rest (though sometimes not), particularly in light of the fact that Kyra kept thinking of him as jealous. There are a few editing issues, particularly regarding punctuation and tense agreement.

The premise is somewhat of a paranormal murder mystery. I do have to say the pacing and balance between the plot and Kyra's personal growth were really well done. I look forward to seeing more from this author in the future. I award Burned 4 Platypires!

Kyra is a shifer but not just any shifter, she's an all black panther with the ability to set things on fire. That scares her a little and she has no control over it. Her background is a little shady and filled with terror but she's a strong woman. Kyra works for the FBI and she and partner Spencer are investigating a string of murders that involve some type of preternatural being that destroys the bodies to get to the bones.

Along with the investigation, she meets Daniel, a human and sparks start to fly. To complicate matters her ex boyfriend Gavin finds her after seven years of searching. This story is so well rounded; relationships, romance, suspense, mystery and an author who has a gift to build a vibrant and complex story that grabbed me immediately.

As a Floridian I love that it's set in Tampa Bay. I pictured the city and west coast as if I was there, This book is amazing on its own but the narrator is perfect. Great pacing and quality. She gives even more character to the story.

A paranormal, romantic suspense story, Burned kept me reading and the characters kept me interested. J. Nichole Parkins does a decent job of balancing her love triangle with Kyra's inner struggles and everyone's determination to either help her or win her heart. Everyone has secrets and Kyra is afraid to allow hers to get out. As I saw another reviewer say, Burned is a clean read. I would have preferred a little more description in the fight scenes, but Mrs. Parkins does a great job of holding your attention. I look forward to reading the next in this series. Well done.

Kyra is a strong female heroine to the end- how refreshing! Watching the relationships between her and Gavin, Spencer, and Daniel was a pleasantry indeed. This book is full of all types of creatures- if you like paranormal romance - this is truly different from anything else I've read. Mythological creatures, shape shifters, vampires, etc... This would make an excellent television series.
