Maggie settled in her room and pulled out her dictionary. She painstakingly wrote a note to Brother Ventimiglio, hoping he could get a message to Callum on her behalf: Ti prego, di' a mio fratello dove sono – Please tell my brother where I am. She wrote down Callum’s phone number and waited to see Brother Ventimiglio again. That happened sooner than expected, as the call to vespers happened almost immediately.
After the service, Maggie slipped Ventimiglio her note and was surprised that he had one for her. She went back to her room to translate.
My sister Signora Tyler, Sister Cecelia and I will be leaving to return to Assisi in the morning. We pray that you will remain safely here and sincerely desire that you find your way back home. Please know that I will attempt to alert the Holy See of the organization that took you, and know that the church, and definitely the friars, condemn such behavior. Please ask for Sister Marie-Claude Pasqua if you require assistance, as she is my contact here. I pray that you and I might meet again in the future, and I pray that you and I together can return the amulet of St. Francis to its intended resting place. May God bless you and keep you. In Christ, Brother Ventimiglio.
