A group of gods who indulge in a drunken party game create a planet that’s not quite right. Down on the surface, a young man discovers powers the gods didn’t realize they’d imbued. Along with those who can gain abilities from a powerful potion, he must discover how to lead fellow Humans to better, richer, and safer lives.
My fiction writing brings together years of science studies, work in heath care, and training and assistant teaching as a black belt in karate. After reading stacks of science fiction in my youth, I was inspired by space adventures such as Star Trek and medical thrillers by Dr. Robin Cook. Before publishing Earth and Beyond, I had articles on art and science fiction published in print and on-line magazines and served as editor for a newsletter/magazine for several years. Selling fantasy art and approved paintings and products related to the Canadian Musical Ride prepared me for doing some graphic design for fellow visual artists and for my own novel cover and ads.
In my town in New Brunswick, Canada, I run a writing group, am a literacy volunteer at school, and enjoys gardening, creative cooking, yoga, photography, kicking back to good movies and shows, and, of course, my family.
This scene from my completed draft of a fantasy novel caught my eye to speak about this week. I found the parallels to my medical thrillers set in space interesting. I wrote this fantasy many years before publishing the SF novels, and as I near the end of drafting book three of the adventures of spaceship Chiron, I’m also looking to polish up this manuscript and make it available fairly soon after book three is out. I set it aside to raise children, build a garden, and do other normal things, then I got caught up in a science fiction scenario, but I mostly like what I’m reading from my many years ago writing.
I can see the influence of my passion for Robin Cook’s medical thrillers working its way into what is mostly a magical journey. While parts of this novel draft might be considered science-fantasy, I go whole hog on the medical angle in book one of the MedSci Missions series, then gradually put more emphasis on other science fiction elements. I look forward to getting back to this fun fantasy in full.

The Party of the Gods
Rejinal stood tensely outside the Locks Eye operation room. The introductory week at the school was over. Now it was time for normal Humans to metamorphose into special beings. The Master Conduits had thoroughly briefed them on the procedure they would all undergo. Now the students faced it with varying degrees of anxiety and anticipation. No one could forget that it was unpleasant, even dangerous. A student had died once in the operation room. There had been extenuating circumstances, but still ….
