“Time to risk a scan that could be picked up. See if you can find a signal from his weapon.”
Ten minutes later, Officer Two called out, “Got one! Oddly, it’s in the middle of the jungle.”
“Well, let’s go to the middle of the jungle,” Woon said. “Plug in the coordinates for me.”
Woon had trouble finding a place to land. “Great galaxies! There’s a personal pod down there.” He swooped down for a closer look.
“It’s been there a while. Abandoned,” Officer Three said.
Woon nodded. “That tiny thing took up the only spot to land in. I didn’t know Scott had that kind of skill!”
“He doesn’t,” Savna said with conviction. “I wonder if there was an illegal AI module used?”
“Hmm,” Woon said. “Ok, I’m going to perch on that flat-topped boulder.”
Everyone tensed as the head of S6 slowly and exactingly lowered ever so slowly in vertical landing mode. The craft settled with a resounding click.
“Ok, that’s step one,” Woon said. “Too bad there’s no place to step.” He opened the shuttle door and looked down. “Four, you’re the most practiced rock climber. Gear up. You and I will see if we can find any sign of Scott. His weapon is the obvious place to start ground search.”
Pounding stakes as they went, they landed twenty-five feet down from the Heracles.
It didn’t take long to find the weapon giving off a faint signal. Unfortunately, it also didn’t take long for a large hairy creature to leap out at them.
