Matthew 5:14-16
You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden.
Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl.
Instead they put it on its stand,
and it gives light to everyone in the house.
In the same way, let your light shine before men,
that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.
Dear Heavenly Father
I'm drawn to You, the Father of light. In You there is no darkness at all. That's what attracts me to You. That's what I need to show others groping along in this dark world we call home. The creation account begins with light. In the new heaven I'm promised there won't even be any shadows. Shine Your light on me.
You've given me the responsibility to continue to be a beacon of hope. I can merely be a dim reflection of Jesus' perfect light, but I'll do the best I can to guide others home to You. Help me develop an inner light on a personal level so it shines brighter every day. Shine Your light in me.
Help me look past my own inadequacies as I carry out my task of reaching others. Come to think of it I don't even feel I deserve Your gift of salvation to begin with. Give me the courage to fulfill my purpose You called me to. Use me in spite of my shortcomings and weaknesses. Shine Your light by me.
One way You've equipped me to shine Your light in this dark world is with my life. Sometimes I feel like I'm waiting for a purpose so I can shine Your message to the world in some way. Let me not be so narrow-minded that I think there's only one way You have for me. Shine Your light through me.
Open opportunities that surprise me to anything You have in store for me. Keep me alert to places where I can shine Your light in small ways to touch hearts and lives. Help me develop a voice people want to follow to You. Shine Your light with me.
Satan will do all he can to darken the light You've given me. I ask for Your wisdom as I deal with these distractions and doubts. Give me the courage to step into places I've felt led to go but will stretch me. Help me trust You are the One doing the stretching to broaden your light that I cast. Shine Your light around me.
I ask this in the name of Jesus Christ, the One who is the light. AMEN
