MY PRAYER OF SURRENDER
I give you my life, God, all of it! Please use it as You see fit.
Take my feet. They try to take me places I know I shouldn't go to. Give me Your feet, beautiful feet that go to the hurting and offer hope and help. Feet that flee from the evil that tries so hard to entrap me. As I was reading through the Easter story I pondered why You washed the disciple's feet. You explained to Peter that only his feet needed to be washed. Why? What's so special about the feet? I realized that their feet collected dust off the streets. I saw the lesson: feet are the part of the body that comes in contact with the world. Help me wash this world's residue off me by reading Your Word on a regular basis. Keep me as pure as I can stay while still reaching people for You.
Take my hands. They grab too much stuff; so much so that I can't reach out to anyone when the need arises. As You restored the withered hand replace my hands with Yours. Attach them to arms that give warm hugs. Give me hands that work for You in all I do.
Take my eyes. They long to linger on things they shouldn't. I'm ashamed to admit that. Pluck them out and give me Your eyes, eyes that look past the surface and see the pain. I long for eyes that shed tears when I watch the evening news. Help me see the solutions to other's problems.
Take my tongue. That muscle in my mouth can be so sharp and bitter. Touch my tongue and give me one that's quick to encourage and build others up. Come to think of it You explained that the words that come out of my mouth originate in my heart. So...
Take my heart. I was taught in school that it's only a muscle that pumps blood. But, I think it's been a gradual callousing that has caused it to become a heart of stone. Give me a soft heart that longs to delight myself in You so I can discover the desires You have for me.
Take my entire being and fill it with Your Word. Let me use it as my compass to find my way on the straight and narrow path. May I be a light that guides lost souls to You with just enough salt to cause a thirst for Your love. Use me to show others the way to Your throne and kingdom for all eternity.
I ask this in Jesus' precious name. Amen
