Emma took the quartz crystal on her bracelet and twisted it to the inside of her wrist. She picked up Aspen and slid the quartz into the opening on the amulet on the dog’s collar. The portal to the Crystal Cave opened before them, shimmering with light. Swirls of color spun over the opening to the time portal. One step into the colors and they would be sliding toward home.
“In order to make sure that we don’t screw up the timeline more, we need to step through in reverse order of how we arrived,” Mr. M said.
“Why?” Emma asked.
“Time travel is a little complicated. Basically, since we traveled through time and to a different location, we need to go back in reverse order so that we don’t cross paths. If we cross paths we might all end up in different times and places,” Mr. M said.
“That’s weird,” Brody said. “How do you know that?”
Mr. M winked at Max.
“It is weird, but Max and I had it happen once and I’d rather not repeat that,” Mr. M said.
Max giggled. “Yeah, we were trying to get back to his house, but I ended up in Brazil and he ended up in Tokyo about 100 years apart. It was a mess.”
