Colors swirled around them. Emma took a few seconds to realize that she was in the crystal cave, moving through time. She could see the others nearby, enjoying the ride on the rainbow slides. She was glad to be away from the boomerangs. After a short time, she felt her body slipping downward. We must be landing, she thought. The colors began to fade, and the sunlight brightened as the kids sped toward the ground. Emma could feel herself free-falling like she did every time before she landed.
“Ouch,” they all groaned in unison as the Crystal Cave dumped them onto a grassy field on top of one another.
“Is everyone okay?” Brody asked as he stood in the bright sunlight. Aspen stood and shook her body until her fur was fluffy once again.
“Yes,” Max, Rose, and Emma said in unison as they rolled off each other and looked around at their new surroundings. Buildings surrounded the manicured grass, trees and flowers on all four sides. But, they were all alone. They saw no people on the streets or cars on the roads.
“What just happened?” Rose asked. Her eyes were wide and her face grew pale as she struggled to stand.
Emma started laughing. “Max, that was brilliant to open the portal, I bet poor old Emmett has no idea what just happened.”
“I didn’t open the portal,” Max said.
“What? You must have without realizing.”
“What was that black hole?” Rose asked. She rubbed her head.
“You tell me.” Max used her stern voice and glared at Rose.
“I have no idea.” Rose’s voice squeaked. “I was running away from boomerangs and all of a sudden this black hole appeared then I fell onto the ground here and YOU landed on top of me.”
