Rick crept slow and low to follow the vibration in the earth. He pulled himself along the wall. “Stephen,” Rick’s voice hissed in a singsong way. “I know you’re in here. I feel you, too, Jimmy Wimmy. I’ll eat you later.”
Stephen could make out Jimmy pressing himself into the wall of the cave, slowly blending into the mud. “He’s flat again.” He laughed to himself. Jimmy’s eyes were wide as though trying to take in as much light as possible.
Stephen could hear the annoyance in Jimmy’s voice when he spoke. “Hey, Stephen. Rick’s a spider again. We gotta go.” He slowly slipped along the wall, palms flat, his weapon forgotten.
Concentrating on his prey, Rick didn’t respond as picked his way along the ceiling. Four long, steel-jointed legs methodically punctured deep wounds in the mud as he moved closer.
