However, abruptly, the small glimpse of hope shattered shortly after the creature charged at Jessica and, taken aback, she stumbled into his iron grips—dropping her weapon.
”Need … n-new … b-bodeee…” it panted and K-17’s monstrous cracking voice returned. It grabbed Jessie, hastily gripping her shoulders, and Kyle and I heard a horrible cracking sound. Jessica screamed terribly and the blood shot eyes returned, confirming that he had tricked us. Anger now swelling, both Kyle and I sprinted towards the creature.
I stopped abruptly, aiming my gun as it paced backwards into the cold lake, dragging Jessica with it—the water was hovering just below her knees. Kyle had stopped as well, aiming his weapon.
“If you know what’s good for you, you will release my partner,” I called out as I aimed my gun, trying to find a clear shot, but there was none. His body was behind Jessica’s from my view and I’m guessing Kyle’s too since he hadn’t take the shot.
Jessica wiggled against his hold, “Kill it!” and she gasped when his fingers dented tighter into her throat. Kyle inched closer, the creature steadied a few steps deeper into the cold water and I examined my chances on a head shot, but that would be too risky. Either I shoot and take down both Jessica and this damn creature or… but then quickly I saw my open, a risky one that would graze Jessie and not kill her for the sake of mankind—the oath I swore by.
