“Ah, Captain Silsbee.” Ezekiel Sims rose from his high stool. “I have the advance on your wages for you. I calculated your usual days and extended ten percent against your expected wages. I don’t have a note about your adventure. What are you taking?”
“Nothing. I don’t have the funds.”
“Surely, you can use this advance . . .”
Nath shrugged. “It’s too late now, but thank you for the thought.” Without checking the amount, Nath handed the coins to his sister. “With what I’ve given you already, you and Mother should be able to keep the wolf from the door until I return. William, Sara will stay here until you can escort her home.”
“Of course.” William thumped his brother’s back. “Come back to us with tales of good fortune.”
