By the time they had arrived in the original parts of the estate Bridgit and Cal had somehow managed to lose their respective bodyguards. For some reason neither Bridgit nor Cal were upset by the loss. Bridgit especially, as she had never particularly cared for any of the guards assigned to her protection detail. To Bridgit’s mind the guard resembled a loss of freedom and privacy – those were something far too precious for Bridgit to give up easily.
Bridgit and Cal then spent the next several hours going through bureau’s, chests, closets, and locked rooms of the original manor. If Cal found that he didn’t have a key to a locked door Bridgit either knew where the key was or where a hidden lever was that would open the door. This was something Cal found to be especially useful, and he made a point to learn whatever tricks Bridgit deemed to share with him.
