All Kain could do was to shake his head at the slightly distraught shade in front of him before replying, “I cannot help what mankind has turned into Milady. I can only tell you what we have become,” Kain explained patiently.
“Then perhaps the Old Beliefs should be recognized once more,” a soft voice with a low purr said from Cleopatra’s feet.
Kain’s eyes turned into the size of saucer plates when he realized that it was Kepi who had spoken. This was too much for Kain to handle – and he could handle a lot, but a talking cat?! Seeing long dead ghosts he could handle, but a talking cat. NO, NO, NO was all that went through Kain’s mind – animals were not supposed to talk. That was beyond believable for him. This situation was beginning to be a little too much for his humble personality to take. So Kain carefully closed his folder and stood from his chair. He then turned to his door and walked out of it with his keys in hand.
