Barbara leaned over to put Wah’s file in her briefcase, but Culpepper grabbed her arm.
“I don’t think you understand,”
Barbara glared at him.
“You’re the CEO; you can hire anyone you want,” he said.
“I don’t appreciate your tone, Langston. Let go of my arm.”
He didn’t and said, “It would be in your and Avilya’s best interests if Wah was hired as soon as possible.”
“I’ll think about it.”
Culpepper tightened his grip and said, “I suggest you think about it very hard.”
Barbara yanked her arm away.
“I don’t know what’s gotten into you and I don’t give a shit. I’m leaving.”
She put the two file folders in her roller bag, zipped it up and walked to the door.
“I’m checking out. And, Langston, don’t you ever, ever threaten me again.”
The old hotel’s walls vibrated when she slammed the door.
Culpepper knew he pushed her too hard, too fast. He must figure out a way to get back in Barbara’s good graces. Walter was a very impatient man.
