Sitting upon his magnificent horse, Nimrod was dressed in his newest finery. With a
sword sheathed by his side and the sun behind him, he looked like the world leader that the
crowd was cheering. It was at this moment that he chose to turn his horse toward the
people and slowly, majestically ride toward them.
As the cheering grew louder and louder, his own pride grew. I’m only 33 and I now rule
the world! Not bad!
As he rode forward, the crowd parted making a path for him to pass through. Some of
them were daring enough to edge closer to him; some close enough to touch him and his
horse. Grinning from ear to ear, he rode the entire length of the camp before turning
around and retracing his route. He continued this activity for several minutes until he
decided to stop and get busy.
Riding to his tent, he dismounted with a flourish. Turning the horse over to a servant,
he turned back facing the people. He stood there waving at the people as they continued to
cheer him.
After a few moments of basking in their adulation, he walked over to his tent. There he
stood at the doorway and waited while several of his closest friends and counselors
gathered about him. Except for the brothers, Asshur and Elam, who were conspicuously
absent. A fact that pleased him rather than angering him. He didn't need their negative
attitude.
“Men, the plains of Shinar lay before us. A little further south is the land that I have
decided we shall dwell in, build our cities, and worship the gods of heaven.
“In the past we have worshiped the God of Noah. But this is the same God that cursed
my grandfather! Belief in Him is a poison that must be removed. And the only way that
can be accomplished involves doing two things. As ruler, I shall have dominion over this
land and all the people. You have heard their shouts of praise. They will follow me
anywhere!
“Secondly, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let
us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth. Since
there are no rocks available, we shall make bricks and use slime as mortar. If it was good
enough for the Ark, it is good enough for the tower. When it is built, the tower will pull the
people unto itself.”
“Won"t the people object?”
“No! You heard them. I am a god to them. Besides, they won"t know what is
happening. We shall teach them that the host of heaven, God"s own created angels,
represent His power. And the stars of heaven represent them. Later they shall be taught
that the angels are gods that they can pray to and get answers.”
“Then it is your plan that this will be gradual and not right away?” asked Jamin, his
right hand man.
“Yes. It will take time, but eventually the people will turn from God.”
