Early in 2011, Peachtree Church offered Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace class, so I asked Jay to take it with me. In one of the videos we watched, I heard an accountant say that he was going to deliver pizza as a second job in order to get out of debt, and I felt a strong impression in my spirit that I wasn’t above delivering pizza. While the ministry work with Listen to My Life was very fulfilling and purposeful, it wasn’t bringing in income for our family.
Before we completed the class, I asked Jay, “What is your takeaway from the class?”
Jay said, “You need to get a job.”
I didn’t like that idea, because I loved the one I had. However, I realized with our children going to college in a few years, a money-making job would be a huge help. I started looking at IT jobs, since my post-college career was with IBM.
A dear Peachtree friend called and asked if I knew that Peachtree was looking for a part-time person to work with Fuller Seminary. That piece of information opened up a work conversation with Peachtree’s executive pastor, Marnie, the same person who had hired Jay two years earlier. The next thing I knew, I had started a part-time job helping Fuller Seminary to market, execute, and host seminary classes on Peachtree’s campus. In addition, I connected with Peachtree visitors and taught membership classes with Marnie. God can even use thoughts of pizza delivery jobs to direct us down the right path.
