I don't know about you, but I don't know too many guys living with a wife or girlfriend, who have the ultimate say in interior decorating. So, if you have recently come out of a long term relationship with a woman, chances are a lot of things in your living space will still be arranged in accordance with her preferences - unless you’re the one who moved out.
Now that you’re living on your own, you get to arrange things to suit yourself. Everything: from the way things are arranged in the drawers in the kitchen, to the shelves in the pantry and the fridge, to the furniture in the living room. You get all the space in the vanity in the bathroom and you can do what you like with the toothpaste.
If you don't like the girly duvet cover on the bed, go buy yourself something you do like. If you don't want those doily things she had all over the place, put them away or chuck them out.
Now that the default position is you being in charge, you can leave the toilet seat up, put your beer in the fridge in the kitchen or your wine in the pantry, if you want to. If you prefer to cook on the BBQ, that's your call. If you want to watch the TV news while you're eating your evening meal, you can. If you want to sleep in on weekends, go ahead. If you want to spend Saturday or Sunday afternoon with your favourite paper and a glass of red, it’s your call.
Relax - there is no-one criticising the way you make the bed, wash the dishes or drop water on the floor, unless you’re into talking to yourself.
The downside is there is no-one else to do any of the things that need to be done around the place. That's all up to you now - but you get to do them in your own time.
When it’s your place you get to set the acceptable standard and to live with the consequences - so be good to yourself.
