For book-lovers looking to discover their “next great read,” Buzz Books 2013 is a treasure-trove of what readers value the most: substantial excerpts from a curated selection of dozens of the most highly-touted books scheduled for publication this fall and winter. Think of it as a compilation of 40 great “singles,” or a special issue of your favorite literary magazine—if only they could land these top authors all at once.
As the book industry gathers for the annual Book Expo America convention, where booksellers, librarians, media and others get to meet the season’s big authors and hope to cart home pre-publication review copies, Buzz Books 2013 exclusively presents passionate readers with some of the same insider’s look at big books on the way.
Our “digital convention” features such major authors as Elizabeth Gilbert, Sue Grafton, Wally Lamb, Chang-rae Lee, Jonathan Lethem, and Amy Tan. Last year’s edition presented such major debut authors as Peter Heller (The Dog Stars); ML Stedman (The Light Between Oceans); Amanda Coplin (The Orchardist); and Kevin Powers (The Yellow Birds). This year we showcase debut novelists you’ve already heard of—James Franco and Valerie Plame—and anticipated new voices such as Hannah Kent (Burial Rites), Graeme Simsion (The Rosie Project) and Hanya Yanagihara (The People in the Trees).
For young adult fans we present early looks at new work from a variety of major authors, including Walter Dean Myers, Tamora Pierce, Brandon Sanderson, Cynthia Voigt, and James Swanson.
And our nonfiction selections range from revelations about Johnny Carson from his confidant Henry Bushkin to the inside story on the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints from one of Rulon Jeffs’ former wives Rebecca Musser (who became a key informant to law enforcement); The World Without Us author Alan Weisman’s investigation into the future of humanity on the planet and journalist Joanne Lipman and Chicago Symphony Orchestra violinist Melanie Kupchynsky’s life lessons from the world’s toughest orchestra teacher; and two books on food culture, from New Yorker writer Dana Goodyear, and Luke Barr, grand-nephew of M.F.K. Fisher.
Titles are presented in rough order of planned publication, and this time they are also grouped into sections for fiction, debut fiction, nonfiction and young adult titles. If these 40 great samples aren’t enough to fill your fall reading lists, we start with an extensive report on the entire fall/winter publishing season, with over 100 notable forthcoming books in all that you will find covered and promoted in the months ahead.
Start reading some of the best future books right now, and please feel free to share your excitement about these new books. Readers have spread the word through online reviews, and you can invite your friends and book group companions to download their own free copy of this ebook from any major ebookstore.
We are honored to help readers discover great new books and to assist the participating authors and publishers in reaching out to new audiences with these pre-publication excerpts.
