Franky kills off the rest of the restrained guards in quick succession, firing over and over, blood spraying on himself and anyone close to the eruption of human fluids, including me. This all occurs to the apparent amusement of everyone else in the gang, excluding me.
I can’t say anything. I’m frozen in shock. I feel the warm blood splatter across my face and my eyes are wide. I struggle to find a voice.
“I…I…thought we weren’t supposed to kill anyone…,” I stammer.
I begin to feel my limbs start shaking involuntarily.
Franky smirks as he pulls a handkerchief from his pocket and begins to rub the fingerprints off of his gun.
“Yeah kid, that’s what we told you to get you in,” Franky explains, “how else was we gonna to set you up?”
The rest of the crew all look at me with self-satisfied grins, chuckling and congratulating each other with evil laughs.
“What?” I say in disbelief.
I suddenly hate myself for being so naïve.
Franky leans forward right in my face and explains. A cloud of putrid breath and evil intentions.
“Let me fill you in…back in the day, Sal used to have his eye on this girl…the prettiest woman anyone in this city had seen…”
My mind began to think about where Franky was going with the story. I had a good idea. I wish I didn’t.
“…but she rejected and disrespected Sal…and embarrassed him by going around with a construction worker,” Franky continued.
“She was your mother.
“He was your father.”
My heart sank into my shoes in an instant. The lowlife continued to tell the story, painting a picture with words that I wish I could shake. I wished I could erase the whole situation.
“Sal was burning with envy and embarrassment, but he still yearned for her and couldn’t bring himself to do something about it. The news that she was pregnant with you was the final straw…Sal lost it.”
My mind pictured the large man that had always been jovial and polite to me and what he would look like if you were angry, flying into a rage.
“He was never the same. Always angry and quiet. He married a local girl and had a kid, but they never held his interest. He didn’t feel anything for them. After a few years, Sal couldn’t take it anymore and had me grab your momma while she was walking home and bring her up to his estate…”
