In the morning, Patty was nothing if not grumpy and groggy. A strange silence seemed to hang over the members of the circus. She was certain by now that the entire staff knew of the dramatic goings on of the night before, but no one said a word to Patty about it. She noticed that nobody was saying much of anything to her. A lot of the members of the circus were whispering as she walked by, avoiding eye contact when they crossed paths with her.
The day and all three shows passed without Patty exchanging any words with Alison or Cassidy. At the gathering of clowns later in the evening, there was an awkward silence. Patty could feel the tension in the air. Patty felt that she, however unfairly, was the main cause of the awkward situation, so she retired to her trailer early to work on her bookkeeping before bed.
