For the first time ever she worried about what kind of world she might find if she dove in. She couldn't even see into the water. She was afraid that she might never be able to return to The Enchanted Forest.
Ladybug looked toward the highest beech tree on the shore, home of Ersha the Spider. She flew up and up to the very top of the tree before she found Ersha.
The ancient spider had climbed as high as she could to escape the bad smell. She was spinning fast and furious. Ladybug could see that Ersha was very annoyed.
"Are you going to spin a thread to leap away from here like everyone else?" Ladybug asked Ersha.
"Who do you think you're talking to?" Ersha scolded Ladybug with her sternest voice. "I've never gone anywhere and I never will! What took you so long to get here?"
Ladybug was surprised. "You were expecting me?" she asked.
"Today you will have to do more than play fairy tricks on people," Ersha said sternly.
