That night, I’m early to bed. I fall into a deep sleep. Nonna appears before me. Her grey hair is pulled back in her familiar bun. She seems peaceful and content. A white aura surrounds her.
She opens her mouth to speak, and her voice is so familiar; it is clear and no-nonsense. “Ancora qui allora? Perche’ non vieni con me? E bello qui. Still here then? Why don’t you come with me? It’s lovely here.”
We stare at each other. Nothing surrounds us but a hazy white light. I feel buoyant, like I’m floating. Nonna gazes at me fondly. I feel warmth and love radiate from her before the edges of her face shimmer and slowly fade. I wake up in the morning and instantly remember the sense of calmness that surrounded me in my dream. In that moment, I know that Nonna and Mamma are in a happier place.
