Devastated, Quincy drove home to confront his wife. Once he arrived at his place, he went into his office and headed straight to his desk and the hidden drawer where he kept a gun. After shoving bullets into the chamber, he placed the gun in his pants pocket and sat back down in his chair to calm his wayward thoughts.
A few minutes later, he walked out of the office to find his wife. When he saw her, he shouted, “Madge, what’s wrong with you? Why did you do this? How could you make love to someone else the same night you made love to me?” Quincy sank down in the chair. He turned his head toward the window as tears streamed down his face. “I guess the old saying is correct about loose women.”
“I guess you’re about to give me another pearl of wisdom!” snapped Madge defiantly. She waited for him to respond.
He grimaced, “You can’t turn a whore into a housewife!” He leaned forward and dropped his head into his hands. He couldn’t get over the fact that Madge had betrayed him in such a heinous way. “I can’t believe my sons are bipaternal twins! I’m going to have a paternity test done as soon as possible to see which son is mine. I’m going to track down the other father, and then either he or I or both of us will strip you of your parental rights to both children. You’re not fit to raise a dog, let alone two little boys!”
“I’d like to see you try.” Madge sneered. “Ha. You don’t have the stomach to carry out such a threat!”
Her cockiness spurred him into action. Suddenly, he crossed the distance between them and grabbed her by the throat. He had a mind to kill her for cuckolding him. “No matter how you clean up your outward appearance, you’re still going to have the heart of a harlot.”
He forcibly shoved her back down in her chair.
When Quincy turned his head, his stare fixated on his wedding pictures that stood on the fireplace mantel. He quickly grabbed the silvery frame and threw it into the roaring fire. He was so enraged that he knocked off all the bric-a-brac too. Shards of broken glass scattered everywhere. “I could kill you, and no judge in this county would convict me! There’s only one reason I’m letting you leave this house in one piece—my sons.”
Madge turned her rage on him. “I’m stuck in this house daily. When you’re here, you’re working in the office or playing with the boys. You never have any time for me! On the weekends, all you talk about is getting food ready for the people who live in those shanty houses.”
Quincy couldn’t believe what he was hearing. “I’m working around this farm from sun up to sun down making a living. Those fine clothes you’re wearing didn’t materialize out of thin air! If you don’t recall, I begged you not to bring shame to the Bryce name. Was that too much to ask? Your whoring around was your choice, not mine!”
“You didn’t want a wife. You wanted a damn slave to cater to your every whim. You married the wrong person! I tried to be a good wife, but your condescending and self-righteous ways kept me off balance. Did you expect me to continue stroking your ego to keep this marriage together?”
“If you hadn’t assaulted me, this marriage wouldn’t have taken place at all. You’ve been scheming from day one, and you’re still up to your old tricks,” Quincy shouted. “Did your father put you up to trapping me in this loveless marriage? What did you expect would happen when you slept around with two men? Did you leave our marriage bed and then bed down with your lover? Madge, you’re a trollop, and that’s all you’re ever going to be! I should have listened to the men at the barbershop when they were discussing your sexual prowess. You do know how to please a man on both ends. You’re nastier than the whores walking the street. Since you know a lot about carnal knowledge, I’m sure you can find another man to keep you in the style you’ve grown accustom. But with me, your luck has run out this time.”
In her haste to stop him, Madge bellowed, “I do know the other father! It’s your so-called best friend and brother-in-law, Adam Collier! Christian is his!”
Quincy grabbed his chest as the searing pain coursed through his chest. He fumbled for the bottle in his pants pocket. Once he placed the nitro pill under his tongue, he waiting until the pain subsided.
“You’ll probably drop dead before you get the nerve to challenge me!” After seeing Quincy put the nitro pill under his tongue, Madge left the room. She hoped her husband’s heart stopped beating! “Your half-dead ass don’t have the balls to carry out your threats,” she called.

After twenty minutes, Quincy felt better and was able to rise from his chair. He felt sick at the thought that Adam had betrayed him, but a big part of him didn’t believe Madge. She’d say anything to hurt him, especially now.
When Madge strolled back in, he looked at her and scowled. “This forced marriage wasn’t a match made in heaven but one created and sanctioned by Satan! If you hadn’t threatened me with those lewd pictures, I would still be a single man right now!”
“You and Adam are a match made in heaven,” she shot back. “With your weak heart, you’re not man enough to fill the bill in terms of making love, especially with my sexual appetite. But lucky for me, your funky best friend is right next door.”
He started to walk away from her, but her accusation against Adam seared through him, and before he knew it he’d stopped in his tracks and grabbed her. He started to shove the gun down Madge’s throat, but realized what an incredibly violent act that would be. He couldn’t allow himself to become the kind of person who would do something like that. He dropped his arm, but the revolver remained in his hand. “I should blow your fucking head off for accusing my best friend!” he snarled. “What did you do, seduce him into submission like you do all your other johns? You’re a tramp and always will be one! Now, get the hell out of my face! I want you out of my house immediately!”
Quincy turned and headed for the door. He needed to put some distance between the two of them before he killed her for real. At that precise moment, he hated her with a passion.
“Why didn’t you shoot me?” she cried, tauntingly. “You’re a dick-less coward! You couldn’t kill me if your life depended on it. You’re a spineless, good-for-nothing fraidy cat. I got more balls than you’ll ever have!”
Quincy wanted to fire the gun at Madge, but he thought about his mother, the nurse, and his sons being in the house. He knew they would forever be traumatized if he murdered the boys’ mother. Instead, he stormed out of the house with the gun.
He headed over to Adam’s house to confront him, and, if necessary, end their friendship once and for all. Now that Adam was married to his sister, though, that was going to be hard to achieve. When he knocked on the door, Olivia answered it.
“Quincy, what’s wrong?” Olivia asked.
“I’ll tell you what’s wrong!” he said, pushing his way into the cabin. “Adam! Adam!” he screamed.
Adam came out of the bedroom. “What’s going on?” he asked.
“Quincy! Wait!” Olivia shouted.
“How could you betray me like this, Adam? You and my wife sleeping together behind my back? You were like a brother to me, and you do this unforgiveable thing!”
“I can explain,” Adam said, his voice low.
“So you admit it! I’m going to kill you!” Quincy pulled the gun out of his pocket and aimed it at his former best friend. As he prepared to squeeze the trigger, Olivia jumped in front of her husband. “Quincy, please don’t do this!”
“Get out the way, Olivia. I’m going to kill him!”
His hands trembled as he raised the gun.
Adam stepped back and raised both hands, palms out. “Put the gun down, Quincy. You don’t want to do this.”
Quincy slowly lowered the gun.
“I wasn’t sleeping around with your wife. She came over late one night. I’d been drinking heavily that night, and she walked in looking to be laid. She seduced me! I know there’s no excuse for my behavior. Please forgive me.”
Quincy turned his attention to Olivia. “Did you know about this? How can you marry someone who sleeps with your brother’s wife? You’re dead to me as well!”
Olivia looked at her brother sadly. “No matter how you feel at this moment, I will always love and care for you. Madge is the guilty party here. Her behavior is going to destroy all of us. If you should be mad at any one, it should be that slut you married!” She turned and walked out of the room.
Adam stood in the room with tears in his eyes. “Quincy, you’ll always be my best friend. I hope you can find it in your heart to forgive me.” He turned his back and started to follow Olivia.
“And did you also know you are the father of one of the twins?” Quincy asked.
Adam turned to face him, the expression on his face revealing his shock.
“Yes, that’s right. Madge just told me! You and I are the fathers of bipaternal twins. Congratulations. You have a son. His name is Christian.”
