Sean and Elliot were five days into their debriefing—five days since Sean had called Nicole. He had called Nicole each day, sometimes twice a day, hoping to catch her. He was following Jenkins on the campaign trail and didn’t see her. He couldn’t help but wonder why she had not returned his calls. He was beginning to believe that Nicole didn’t want to talk to him because she chosen Jenkins and couldn’t have him in her life at the same time. He laughed at that thought, knowing that Nicole would always talk to him if he approached her. So, why wouldn’t she return his calls now?
He arrived at Elliot’s office by midmorning, knocked on the door, and entered when it opened. Elliot greeted Sean as he walked back to his desk. Upon it was a huge monitor, which Elliot disappeared behind. It was the beginning of a new age, and Elliot was on the forefront of a technology that would revolutionize intelligence gathering. In Sean’s eyes, Elliot was a genius. He was working to prove his theory with some computer system that would be able to predict movements of terrorists or enemies with statistical probabilities. Sean couldn’t begin to describe the program or what Elliot was typing into it. He just answered questions. Sean’s answers all pertained to the Serpent’s behaviors and actions. It was interesting and boring at the same time.
