Ask, you might get
Twenty years in Africa taught me, "Ask, you might get." If you don't ask, the answer is "no". I have a friend who reminds me of a fly that sits on your arm. You brush it away, and it comes right back to the same place. Shake it off, and in a few seconds, there it is again. That's shameless persistence. My friend is not shy about asking for something and then reminding me of it repeatedly until I've done it. That's how we need to be with God. In fact, God invites us to be that way. Nothing is too small or too great for us to request, and to keep on asking. What an opportunity.

Still Small Voice of Love
Luke 11:8
But I tell you this—though he won’t do it for friendship’s sake, if you keep knocking long enough, he will get up and give you whatever you need because of your shameless persistence.
Beloved: As I sit in my rocking chair looking out my window with the sunlight coming through the maple tree leaves, I enjoy knowing You are here with me. We sit in comfortable silence as I reflect on Your admonition to ask for things with “shameless persistence.” That is not comfortable for me. I fear that being a pest will annoy You and end up working against me in the end. There, I’ve said it.
Lover: Dearest One, don’t be afraid. We want the same things, though you do not always know what to want. Prayer and asking is our way of working together. It is a way to strengthen your faith and trust in Me as you see your requests answered. You fear to pray for some issues because they seem too overwhelming. I’m big enough to handle those. Some things seem too small and insignificant to bother Me with. If it touches you, it is significant to Me. Sometimes I may seem unresponsive to your prayers. That’s when you need to exercise ‘shameless persistence.’ These times stretch your faith and help you grow. But in the end, you will receive all that I want to give you, if you keep asking. I promise.
7“Ask, and you will receive. Search, and you will find. Knock, and the door will be opened for you. 8Everyone who asks will receive. The one who searches will find, and for the one who knocks, the door will be opened. 9“If your child asks you for bread, would any of you give him a stone? 10Or if your child asks for a fish, would you give him a snake? 11Even though you’re evil, you know how to give good gifts to your children. So how much more will your Father in heaven give good things to those who ask him?
