Author Biography
Leoma worked in the Sudan for 20 years and came to know and love many Sudanese. When she returned to the US, she wrote about her experiences as well as the lives of her Sudanese friends and colleagues. While dealing with culture shock to the US, she wrote a devotional book and several books of prayers based on Scripture. Leoma has a unique view of life, and that is reflected in her passion for connecting faith and the reality of life in the US and abroad.

How to pray for wars to cease

We all want wars to stop. We want the suffering to end. But how do we pray for that to happen. These verses from Jeremiah can help us pray meaningfully without being in the middle of a traumatic situation. We hear mostly of the war in Ukraine, and Israel with Gaza. But the Sudan is still at war with itself. Let's join with the Spirit to cry out for those in war zones that God will have mercy and end their suffering.

Wars to cease

O LORD, as I hear and see the news from so many places in the world, my heart writhes in pain! My heart pounds within me! I cannot keep quiet. Your people have heard the blast of enemy trumpets and the roar of battle cries. Waves of destruction roll over the land until it lies in complete desolation.

Suddenly, all homes are destroyed; in a moment, all buildings are crushed. How long must people look at the signal flares and listen to the sirens warning of danger?

LORD, in your mercy, hear our prayer and have compassion on all who live in war zones.
