I will not pretend to tell you how to get through Christmas without your loved one. Unfortunately, though, I know you cannot just go to sleep until the holiday season passes. I can only tell you what I did that helped me, especially the first Christmas.
At first, I did not plan to decorate my house at all. How could I do that? But I decided to get a small tree and decorate it in honor of my husband. The only ornaments I put on the tree were ones we had purchased together when we got engaged, as well as his favorite ornaments that in the past, I had relegated to the back of the tree. It was the Reg tree, and I loved that little tree. I felt as if it brought me closer to him.
Every year, he would give my mom a new Christmas ornament on Christmas Eve, and he loved the TV show A Charlie Brown Christmas. Therefore, that first year, she got a perfect Charlie Brown tree. It was a pathetic little thing, and she decorated it only with the ornaments he had given her. It was a tree in his honor. I loved and appreciated that.
