We had also planned to travel to Disneyland in Anaheim. We aimed to spend more time in Colorado’s mountains and even talked about possibly retiring in the mountains. Every year, Reg’s parents traveled to Florida and rented a house for April and May in a retirement community. Every April for five years, we visited for a week. We would watch the older couples dancing in the square, eating dinner at the restaurants, playing golf, and just enjoying life together. We would say, “Do you think we will ever spend a winter down here like these people?” We didn’t know, but we knew we would be together.
Even before he met me, Reg diligently socked away money into his 401(k), so he could enjoy life in his mature age. That future and those plans are now gone! I will not grow old with him. I will not enjoy the fun of traveling with him or enjoying life without having to worry about work. I regret we didn’t just take the funds from his 401(k) and take time off work, so we could travel and play.
