I gave my outer thigh a wicked pinch to refocus my brain, because Jackson Piedmont was one great-looking guy when his face lit up like that. Parker, damn her, was spot-on: I was seriously hard-up. “That’s wonderful! Do most people want you to restore the old details, though, or gut it and make it all modern inside?”
Jack made a wry face. “A bit of both, actually. Although I try to convince them that there weren’t pot fillers above the stove back in the eighteenth century. No one really uses those damn things anyway.”
We both laughed, and I felt myself relax incrementally. I was still on guard, but Jack was being every inch the friendly innocent gentleman and I was curious to see how far down his guard would go. “I’d never use one, I only know what they are because my roommate watches a lot of HGTV. She’s obsessed with Property Brothers.”
