“I am the resurrection and the life.”
John 11:25
New World Translation of Holy Scriptures
mIdnIGht, may 1, 1945.
The boy, lying on the cold steel of an operating table,
awakened from death the same way he died—screaming.
Concealed behind the black velvet curtain in a small
chamber in the tower of Burg Rottlen Castle, the boy
kicked, yelled and swung his balled fists wildly through
the air, blocking any attempts by Dr. Weiss to embrace
him or to calm him down. Standing by, Colonel Strass and
two soldiers, Arnulf and Dag, watched the boy have his
tantrum. Finally, the colonel intervened. He approached
the boy, and with a stern, commanding gaze, looked the
boy in the eyes. The colonel then raised his right arm and
barked,” Heil Hitler!”
Immediately the boy stopped screaming, jumped off the
operating table and stood up straight.

Imitating the colonel’s posture, the boy saluted back and
repeated, “Heil Hitler!” before his knees buckled.
“Adok!” Dr. Weiss called out as he and Colonel Strass
quickly grabbed the lad before he fell.
“What’s his full name and where is he from?” asked
Colonel Strass.
“His name is Adok Makowski from Slupsk, located in
the northwestern part of Poland, near the Baltic Sea. The city is just one hundred and eighty-five miles from the German
border.” said the doctor.
The two of them lead Adok back to the operating table
and sat him down.
“He needs food.”
Colonel Strass ordered Private Narvik to bring the boy
something to eat.
