THEY SAY THAT “cleanliness is next to godliness.” That’s good for dogs because most dogs love water. They love to jump in it, swim in it, drink it, splash around in it, and especially, shake it off. Most dogs do not love bathing, however. Watson was an exception to this rule. He loved getting clean.
Of course, he was too big to actually get into a bathtub. Usually, Watson’s eldest female person would bathe him outside on the patio with a bucket of suds and a hose. This provided him with some special one-on-one time with his alpha female, which clearly delighted him. He rather liked being made wet, along with actually being wet. The one led to the other, and both were to be savored. But more than anything else, he loved being rinsed off. Though for the washer, it was quite vexing, because the bather (Watson) would do his level best to eat the water being sprayed at him. For him, that was enormously more fun than just being rinsed. Most of the time, he ate the majority of the water intended to rinse him.
