If you feel you are too old for exercise, you will have to change your mindset. You are not too old and it is never too late to start exercising! While many older folks choose to be physically inactive, you don’t have to be just because they are. There are many, many examples of older people who exercise regularly and who are in great physical condition. You can, too, and I hope by the time you have finished this book you will have changed your mind about exercise.
No exercise, or a lack of it, will actually accelerate the aging process and you will get older quicker! In a sense, it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. On the other hand, if you increase your exercise, you will significantly slow down the aging process and you will feel better and younger. Consider this great exercise motto by Dr. Kenneth Cooper, the father of aerobic exercise:
“We do not stop exercising because we grow old; we grow old because we stop exercising.”
