All Lucia Giroux has known her entire existence has been her idyllic life in Province 3. She is about to attend her Vocation Ceremony where she will be officially considered an adult in the eyes of the nation. Lucia will follow in her Father’s footsteps and announce her choice as Record Keeper. As Lucia begins working in The Vaults, she’ll discover dark secrets and hidden dangers.
I am a young adult sci-fi/fantasy author and children's book author and illustrator. I've been a middle school teacher for 8 years. When I'm not writing, I do yoga, eat gluten-free, and fangirl over Doctor Who.
It isn't easy being seventeen and finding out you're the beacon of hope from a decades old prophecy. Here, I tried to capture both Lucia's anger and her frustration at finding out she is The Light. Lucia is caught between handling the news like an adult and acting out like a child at the revelation. With great power comes great responsibility.

The Prophecy: The Lucia Chronicles Book 1
But I am still angry and can feel it boiling just beneath the surface. “Try to understand that my parents kept a secret from me for my entire life? Try to understand that I’m the hope for thousands of people and they think I can help to end an entire war? Sure, let me wrap my brain around that one.” I get up and accidentally knock over my mother’s tiny cup of coffee. I look at the black liquid forming a small puddle on the floor. I kick at the cup and send it spiraling across the floor until it stops against the wall. “I need some time,” I say and I get up and stride away. There aren’t many places to go down here, so I stride across the spacious compound to the door that we took upstairs to the kitchen the other night. I yank it open and let it slam shut behind me.
