“It’s dangerous, Nic.” I say, no longer referring to the simulator, placing my hand over his so that he can’t pull it away from my cheek yet.
“I know. But, Lu, we knew when we came out here that what we were doing—would be doing—is dangerous. It comes with the territory. Nothing worth doing ever comes easy.” He looks me in the eyes and I know that there is no changing his mind, not that I expected there to be. This is why we came here after all. Sometimes we have to take great risks to protect the people we love.
