The Reunion

Surprisingly, he made it through the crowd faster than she did, meeting her at the far side of the dance floor.

“Josh!” said the woman throwing her arms around the man, giving him a big kiss on the mouth.

It took a few seconds for Josh to catch his breath as he returned the hug.

“Josh, you look terrific!” said Nancy. “As handsome as ever.”

Josh was still catching his breath. “Damn, Nancy, when are you gonna dump Jon and come live with me. Many more hellos like that and it won’t just be my legs that don’t work.”

“Sorry, Josh,” Nancy blushed. “I was at the hotel alone when you called and couldn’t wait to get here to see you. Hell, you’re one of the main reasons Jon agreed to take this assignment.”

“Jon left a message on my voice mail to that effect. So, where is he?” Josh asked still holding Nancy’s hand. There was a special place in his heart for Nancy. When he was so gravely wounded, Jon was wounded as well. Nancy spent as much time consoling him as she did her husband. He credited both with keeping his spirits up when he needed the support. At least until he made the decision to move forward with his life. He smiled up at her.

“Since he’s busy saving the world, why don’t you come live with me?”

Nancy laughed hugging him again. “With pleasure, as long as you take the three children that come with the deal.”

Josh laughed and held his fingers up, so they made a cross.

Nancy laughed. “I always thought you were a fair-weather suitor. Now, I’m sure. Besides, Jon would just go find SEAL Team Five and come looking for us.”

It was Josh’s turn to laugh. “Well in that case let’s stay here and get drunk. When he comes here to get SEAL Team Five, we’ll kidnap him.”

Nancy laughed again. “Sounds like a plan, sailor. Where to?”

Josh motioned for her to follow him. When they reached the table all the men stood up. Nancy was quick to notice they all were a little wobbly. It brought back memories of days gone by.

“Fight hard! Party hard! Nothing changes,” she said under her breath grinning.
